What if I'm just an empty shell crawling with ants
"What if I'm just an empty shell crawling with ants" is part of the CONTINUUM Dalí exhibition by Accelerate Art, curated by Claire Silver and OliverHR.
After immersing myself not only in Dalí's visual art but also his writings and interviews, what struck me the most was his general sense of self that he portrayed to the world. His curiosity about himself and what he would come up with next, a certain trust in his own creativity and work. I decided that, lacking this myself, I wanted to draw from that. So I took a picture of myself in the most vulnerable state and then cracked myself open - like an egg - to see what's insight and what I can give birth to in my art. I also wanted to leave space for my own fears and anxieties around my work and - again drawing on Dalí's symbolism and centering a sentence from "The Secret Life of Dalí" - asked the question: What if there is nothing inside? What if I'm just an empty shell crawling with ants?
